campuschina.org and the scholarship information system: which is which

Unofficial summary · Sources checked

campuschina.org is the China Scholarship Council's "CSC Study in China" website, and the Chinese Government Scholarship Information System (CGSIS) is the online application system reached by clicking "Scholarship Application for Students" on that site. So the two names are not two rival portals: one is the site, the other is the application system inside it. This article accompanies the scholarship match, where you enter your study level, scholarship type, citizenship, language and HSK level and get the national scholarship entries that fit, each linked to the official notice it came from.

This site is neither campuschina.org nor the application system, and it cannot submit an application for you.

What the site is used for, in the CSC's own words

The Application Guide for Chinese Government Scholarship uses the address three times for three different jobs:

  • Item V.1: learn about designated universities and the majors they offer by visiting http://www.campuschina.org or other means.
  • Item II(III): visit the site for further information about designated universities and majors.
  • Item V.4: fill in and submit the Application Form for Chinese Government Scholarship online via the Chinese Government Scholarship Information System (http://www.campuschina.org).

The same guide's "VII. Contact Information" section gives telephone and e-mail lines for Asia, Africa, Europe, and America & Oceania, followed by a fax line, a website line, and the address of the Division of International Students Admission and Cooperation Programs, China Scholarship Council, Level 13, Building A3, No.9 Chegongzhuang Avenue, Beijing, postcode 100044. Those contact details belong to that page; take them from the page itself rather than from any summary, including this one.

What the application process looks like around the system

Item V of the application guide sets out seven steps. Only step 4 names the online system; the others are taken with a university, a receiving agency, or the CSC.

Step What the guide says Where
1 Learn about designated universities and majors, and identify the preferred scholarship programme, university and major Application Guide, V.1
2 Reach the designated university for admission documents Application Guide, V.2
3 Reach an application receiving agency for a recommendation Application Guide, V.3
4 Fill in and submit the application form online via CGSIS at http://www.campuschina.org Application Guide, V.4
5 The receiving agency submits the recommended candidates list and their documents Application Guide, V.5
6 The CSC organises universities and experts to examine eligibility and academic performance and finalise the short list Application Guide, V.6
7 The CSC notifies results to the receiving agency, which then informs the applicant Application Guide, V.7

Two of these steps sit outside any website. Admission documents come from the university (V.2), and the recommendation comes from an application receiving agency (V.3). The online form is one step in a chain, not the application as a whole.

What you actually do inside CGSIS

The Guidebook to the ASEAN-China Young Leaders Scholarship and the MOFCOM SCHOLARSHIP-CSC Program (Enrollment Guide) each carry an "Instructions for Chinese Government Scholarship Information System (CGSIS)" section. The wording is nearly identical in both, apart from the programme-specific details noted below.

  1. Visit the "CSC Study in China" website and click "Scholarship Application for Students" at http://www.campuschina.org, then register an account through [CREATE AN ACCOUNT] and log in.
  2. Input Personal Details: click "Edit Personal Details", fill in all information, verify and save, then click "Finish" to return to the previous page.
  3. Select the "Program Category". Both guidebooks tell their own applicants to choose "Type A".
  4. Input the "Agency Number". Program Category and Agency Number are directly matched and both are mandatory. The matched agency name appears on the page automatically once the number is entered, and the instructions warn that processing authorities will not receive the application if either is wrong.
  5. Input Application Information, then move to "Language Proficiency and Study Plan" and upload "Supporting Documents" as requested, then click "Submit".
  6. Once submitted, "Personal Details" and "Application Information" cannot be amended. Before the application is processed you can click "Withdraw", edit, and resubmit — and you must resubmit, or it will not be processed. Once it is processed, it cannot be revoked.
  7. Click "Print the Application Form" and download the form.
  8. Submit the scholarship application under the requirements of the dispatching authorities, or application processing agency.

Both sets of instructions close with the same warning: China Scholarship Council never entrusts any individual or intermediary agent to process Chinese Government Scholarship applications, applicants should submit directly through official dispatching authorities, and http://www.campuschina.org/ is the only official website on which the CSC publishes Study in China information.

Three smaller rules appear in the notes to both: fill in all application information in Chinese or English; use Firefox or Internet Explorer 11.0, and if using Internet Explorer, close the "compatibility view mode" function before editing.

For university choice, the instructions say that when Type A applicants choose "Preferences of Institutes" the system automatically matches available universities according to the chosen student category and preferred teaching language (the MOFCOM wording adds "and Major Applying for"). For questions about available majors, both point to http://www.campuschina.org/universities/index.html, and both note that the "Catalog of Discipline Field, First-level Discipline, Specialty" can be downloaded from "Help" to identify the relation between discipline and major.

The programme category and agency number are per-programme figures

The two agency numbers in the two guidebooks are each given for one specific programme:

  • 0025 — given in the Guidebook to the ASEAN-China Young Leaders Scholarship as "Your Agency Number is: 0025".
  • 00010 — given in the MOFCOM SCHOLARSHIP-CSC Program (Enrollment Guide) as "Your Agency Number is: 00010", marked "Only for applicants of MOFCOM Scholarship-CSC Program".

Both instruction sets say the scholarship receiving authorities, or application processing authorities, inform the programme category and agency number to candidates who are qualified to apply; the Guidebook to the ASEAN-China Young Leaders Scholarship adds that its focal point list is headed "As of 2026". Do not carry a number from one programme's guidebook into another programme's form: both say an application with an incorrect Agency Number will not be processed.

Dates and deadlines

The Application Guide for Chinese Government Scholarship gives no application deadline date. The ACYLS guidebook says applications generally open from January to March every year and tells applicants to consult the ACYLS national focal points or the AUN Secretariat directly for the application deadline of the current year. Section II of the MOFCOM enrollment guide gives no deadline date and tells the reader to consult the application receiving authority for the deadline of each year. Where a programme's dates matter, the receiving authority is the body that states them.

What the guide says about the scholarship itself

Item II of the application guide lists the supporting categories as undergraduates, postgraduates, and general and senior scholars, and says the scholarship covers both major study and Chinese language (preparatory) study, with language courses lasting one year and the duration of major study conforming to what is required. Item II(III) names the fields offered by designated universities as science, engineering, agriculture, medicine, economics, law, management, education, history, literature, philosophy and fine arts, among others.

Questions people ask

Is the scholarship information system a separate website from campuschina.org?

No. The application guide calls the system the Chinese Government Scholarship Information System and gives http://www.campuschina.org as its address, and both programme guidebooks tell applicants to reach it by clicking "Scholarship Application for Students" on that same site.

Can I edit my application after I click submit?

Not directly. Both CGSIS instruction sets say that once submitted, no amendment can be made to "Personal Details" or "Application Information"; before the application is processed you may click "Withdraw", edit it, and then submit it a second time, and if you do not submit again the application will not be processed. Once it has been processed it cannot be revoked.

Who do I contact if the agency number I was given does not work in the system?

Both instruction sets say the scholarship receiving authorities, or application processing authorities, inform applicants of the programme category and agency number. The application guide's contact section lists regional lines for Asia, Africa, Europe, and America & Oceania; the numbers and addresses on that page are the ones to use.

Can this site submit my application or check whether it was received?

No. This site is an unofficial planning site; it is not campuschina.org, not the scholarship information system, and not a dispatching or receiving authority, and a result from its tools is not an award or an eligibility decision.
