For Chinese Government Scholarship applicants, the list comes from section VI of the official application guide, filtered to your level and situation. For self-funded applicants it shows what national rules require and where your university publishes the rest. Checked on 10 October 2026.

The Chinese Government Scholarship list restates section VI of the official application guide. The body that receives your application, and the university, may ask for more. The tool does not check or submit documents.

01 Application Form for Chinese Government Scholarship Filled in online through the Chinese Government Scholarship Information System.
02 Passport information page A clear scan of the information page of an ordinary passport. If the passport has less than 12 months' validity counted from the expected start of study, renew it first.
03 Highest diploma and certificate Notarised photocopy. A current university student submits a certificate of expected graduation or of student status issued by the university.
04 Academic records Records in a language other than Chinese or English need notarised translations in Chinese or English.
05 HSK score report A valid HSK report that meets the level for your programme: Level 4 for a Chinese-taught master's or doctoral programme, Level 3 for a Chinese-taught general or senior scholar programme. The guide's Level 3 rule for general scholars excludes Chinese language majors.
05 Language certificate the university asks for For a programme taught in a language other than Chinese: the certificate the university requires, such as an IELTS or TOEFL score report. The guide sets no score of its own.
06 CSCA score report Bachelor's applicants must take the China Scholastic Competency Assessment before the application deadline and upload a valid score report. Ask the university which test subjects your major needs.
07 Pre-admission document Required of all applicants: a pre-admission notice from the university's international student admission department, or an invitation letter from the school or a professor.
08 Study or research plan In Chinese or English. At least 200 (undergraduates), 500 (scholars) or 1,000 (postgraduates) words or characters.
09 Two recommendation letters In Chinese or English, from professors or associate professors. The guide requires them for postgraduate applicants and for senior scholars in academic education.
10 Your own works Arts and design applicants provide their own works, such as videos and paintings.
11 Legal documents of your guardian in China Applicants under the age of 18 submit the legal documents of their legal guardian or guardians in China.
12 Foreigner Physical Examination Form (photocopy) For study in China of more than six months. All listed items must be covered; a form without the physician's signature, the hospital's stamp or a sealed photograph is invalid. Results are valid for six months.
13 Certificate of Non-Criminal Record A valid certificate (or police clearance certificate) issued by the local public security authority, usually within six months before the application is submitted.
