China student visa from Bangladesh: what the Dhaka embassy's notice lists

Unofficial summary · Sources checked

If you are applying from Bangladesh to study in mainland China, the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Bangladesh lists two student-visa categories on its Important Notices on Chinese Visa Application page (page time stamp 12 September 2025): X1, for study of more than 180 days, and X2, for study of no more than 180 days. The notice gives a document list for X1 and lists no documents in the X2 row. The X1/X2 split itself is national — Article 6(11) of the Regulations on Administration of the Entry and Exit of Foreigners (State Council Decree No. 637) defines X1 as long-term study and X2 as short-term study — while the embassy's page is the authority for the documents it asks for locally.

To see which category your own study length falls into, use the X1 or X2 visa check: it asks for your study length, where you will live and whether you plan off-campus work-study, and prints the documents for that category as listed by the Chinese Embassy in the United Kingdom. The tool does not decide a visa: Chinese embassies and consulates decide visa applications, and exit/entry administrations decide residence permits.

X1: what the Dhaka notice lists

On the embassy's Important Notices page (time stamp 12 September 2025), the X1 row covers personnel who will study in China for a long period of more than 180 days.

For students of institutions of higher education, the notice lists:

  1. Confirmation Form for Study in China (Form JW201 or JW202);
  2. the original copy of the school's admission letter.

Applicants with scholarship support should provide relevant proof. Self-funded applicants shall submit a bank statement, and the statement should prove that the applicant has at least 2500 USD each year for his or her study in China. That bank-statement amount is the embassy's requirement.

For primary and secondary school students, the notice lists the Confirmation Form for Elementary Stage Students Study in China.

X2: the row with no documents listed

The same page's X2 row covers personnel who will study in China for a short period (no more than 180 days). The documents cell for that row is empty on the page: the notice lists no document for X2. The X2 row of the table on the embassy's Important Notices page lists no documents. If you need X2 documents, read the page of the mission where you will apply; this site's check prints one embassy's list (the Chinese Embassy in the United Kingdom) and tells you to read your own mission's page.

Visa fees: the 7 January 2026 reduction notice

In its Notice on Extension of Visa-Fee Reduction (7 January 2026), the embassy says: "To facilitate people-to-people exchanges, the Chinese Embassy in Bangladesh will continue to reduce visa fees until December 31, 2026." The reduced fees are given in Bangladesh Taka by passport and number of entries, not by visa category, so there is no separate X1 or X2 line.

Type (Bangladesh passport) Regular delivery (the 4th working day) Express delivery (the 3rd working day) Urgent delivery (the 2nd working day)
Single Entry 2400 5100 6400
Double Entry 3600 6300 7600
6 Months Multiple 4800 7500 8800
12/24 months Multiple 7200 9900 11200

All amounts are in Bangladesh Taka and come from that notice. Because the table is arranged by entry type, it does not state a separate fee for an X1 or X2 visa.

The national rule behind X1 and X2

The Regulations of the People's Republic of China on Administration of the Entry and Exit of Foreigners (State Council Decree No. 637, adopted on 3 July 2013, dated 12 July 2013, in force from 1 September 2013), in the English text published by the National Immigration Administration, state at Article 6(11): "The X1 visa is issued to persons who apply for long-term study in China; the X2 visa is for persons who apply for short-term study in China; and". Article 6(11) itself gives no day count; Article 36(4) and (5) of the Regulations say short-term means staying in China for a period not exceeding 180 days (including 180 days) and long-term or resident means residing in China for a period exceeding 180 days.

The Dhaka embassy's notice supplies day counts in its own rows: X1 is more than 180 days, X2 is no more than 180 days. This site's visa check applies one line to the length you enter: more than 180 days gives X1, 180 days or fewer gives X2. The tool counts whole days with both the first and the last day included, and that count is for the length of study only: it does not count the 30-day residence permit period or any other deadline.

What this site's check asks and prints

The check asks for the length of study in days, or a start date and an end date; where you will live (university dormitory, off campus, or a hotel at first); and a tick box "I plan an off-campus internship or work-study". It then prints, for the category the line gives, the documents as listed by the Chinese Embassy in the United Kingdom, and the steps after entering China that apply to your answers: for X1, the residence permit application within 30 days of entry, what to take, the health certificate when the permit is for one year or more (the tool shows this step when the study period entered is 365 days or more), the acceptance receipt, and later extension and change reporting; for X2, staying within the duration of stay and how an extension works; accommodation registration according to your housing answer; and the endorsement step when the work-study box is ticked. Each line names the article or page it comes from and links to it. The result can be copied or printed. The tool is not an official source and is never the authority for a rule: it shows one embassy's document list and tells you to read the page of the mission where you will apply.

Questions people ask

Does the Dhaka notice list documents for X2?

The X2 row on the embassy's Important Notices on Chinese Visa Application page (time stamp 12 September 2025) gives the description "short period (no more than 180 days)", but its documents cell is empty: the notice lists no document for X2. The X2 row on that page lists no documents, and this article does not fill the gap from another mission's list.

How much is the fee for a student visa?

The embassy's Notice on Extension of Visa-Fee Reduction (7 January 2026) gives reduced fees in Bangladesh Taka by passport and number of entries, with no separate X1 or X2 line; for a Bangladesh passport, single entry is 2400 Taka at regular delivery (the 4th working day), 5100 at express delivery (the 3rd working day) and 6400 at urgent delivery (the 2nd working day). The notice says the reduction continues until December 31, 2026.

Is the 180-day threshold in the Regulations?

Article 6(11) of the Regulations defines X1 as long-term study and X2 as short-term study without a day count, but Article 36(4) and (5) of the Regulations give 180 days as the line for short-term and long-term stays. The Dhaka embassy's rows use the same 180-day figure for study (more than 180 days for X1, no more than 180 days for X2), and this site's check applies the line more than 180 days gives X1, 180 days or fewer gives X2.
