Chinese Government Scholarship for Indonesian students: the consulate's 2026/2027 notice

The Consulate-General of the People's Republic of China in Medan published the "2026/2027 Chinese Government Scholarship Application" notice on 27 October 2025. It sets out the China–Indonesia Scholarship in Higher Education Program, who may apply, the documents needed, the steps and the dates for that intake. Submit the online application at www.campuschina.org with all documents before 8 February 2026; the notice says there is no need to send paper materials to the embassy.

Scholarship programme
The notice's Scholarship Introduction names one programme for Indonesia.
- China–Indonesia Scholarship in Higher Education Program: 20 places for undergraduate, master's and doctoral programs, used to recruit students going to China to study marine, medical, health, tourism, education and other required majors. Eligibility
To be eligible, an applicant must meet the conditions in the notice's Eligibility section:
- Be a citizen of a country other than the People's Republic of China, and be in good health both mentally and physically. Source: Eligibility.
- Be a high school graduate under the age of 25 when applying for undergraduate programs. Source: Eligibility.
- Be a bachelor's degree holder under the age of 35 when applying for master's programs. Source: Eligibility.
- Be a master's degree holder under the age of 40 when applying for doctoral programs. Source: Eligibility.
- Be a high school graduate (at least) under the age of 45 when applying for general scholar programs. Source: Eligibility.
- Be a master's degree holder or an associate professor (or above) under the age of 50 when applying for senior scholar programs. Source: Eligibility.
- Take the "China Scholastic Competency Assessment (CSCA)" and upload a valid score report (Appendix 4) when applying for bachelor programs; the CSCA score report is one of the necessary materials for university admission review. More at www.csca.cn. Source: Eligibility.

Application documents
The Application Documents section lists what to upload. Each item below is from that section.
a) Application Form for Chinese Government Scholarship (in Chinese or English). b) Passport home page: a clear scanned copy of the ordinary passport information page. If the held passport is valid for less than 12 months counted from the expected study start date, renew it and use the renewed passport for the application. An applicant who fails to apply for a passport due to objective reasons may submit valid documentation showing full English name, gender, nationality and date of birth, upon approval of the application receiving agency. c) Notarized highest diploma; prospective diploma winners must submit official proof of student status from their current school. Non-Chinese or non-English documents need notarized Chinese or English translations. d) Academic transcripts; non-Chinese or non-English transcripts need notarized Chinese or English translations. e) Language qualification certificates: Chinese-taught master's, doctoral, general scholar and senior scholar programs require a valid HSK score report meeting the level; other-language programs require certificates such as IELTS or TOEFL per the university's requirements. f) CSCA Score Report: bachelor's applicants must register for and take the CSCA before the application deadline and obtain a valid Score Report; contact the target institution for required test subjects. Applicants enrolling in September 2026 must register for and take the CSCA on 21 December 2025 or 25 January 2026. g) Pre-Admission Documents: all applicants must provide a pre-admission document issued by the applied universities (pre-admission notice from the international students' admission department, or an invitation letter from schools or professors). Provide at least one. h) Study Plan or Research Proposal in Chinese or English: minimum 200 words for undergraduates, 500 words for non-degree students, 800 words for postgraduates. i) Recommendation letters: graduate program or senior scholar program applicants must submit two letters in Chinese or English from professors or associate professors. j) Example of Art: art or design applicants may submit their own works through the system's "Example of Art / Other Supporting Documents", or provide them to the applied universities directly. k) Applicants under 18 should submit valid documents of their legal guardians in China. l) Applicants planning to stay in China for more than 6 months must submit a photocopy of the Foreigner Physical Examination Form completed in English; the original is kept by the applicant. The form is from the Chinese quarantine authority. All listed items must be covered; incomplete records or those without the physician's signature, the hospital's official stamp or a sealed photograph are invalid. The result is valid for only 6 months. m) Non-criminal record report: a valid certificate issued by the local public security authority, usually issued within 6 months before the application submission date.

Procedure and dates
The Time Frames section gives three periods for the 2026/2027 cycle.
- From the notice date to 8 February 2026: check www.campuschina.org for university and programme information, contact Chinese universities and obtain Pre-Admission Documents, then submit the online application. The Indonesian Agency Number is 3602.
- 9 February to 5 March 2026: the embassy sends all recommended applications to the China Scholarship Council for final review.
- July to August 2026: applicants check admission results in the system; the embassy notifies winners to download the admission notice and JW201 visa form.

Overlapping scholarships
The notice's Reminder states that Chinese Government Scholarship students are not allowed to hold other scholarships (excluding one-time awards) established by the Chinese government at all levels and the admitted universities at the same time. If found, the CGS qualification is cancelled and the received scholarships must be returned. Questions people ask
Do I need to send paper documents to the embassy?

Can I hold another scholarship at the same time as the Chinese Government Scholarship?
