Chinese Government Scholarship for Mongolian students: the embassy's 2026/2027 announcement
Unofficial summary · Sources checked
The Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Mongolia announced that for the 2026/2027 academic year the Chinese government would provide 220 scholarships to the Mongolian government: 138 were already studying in China, and 82 new students were planned — 46 undergraduates and 36 master's, doctoral, general and advanced students. Applications for that cycle were accepted from 10 November 2025 to 1 February 2026, through www.campuschina.org. The announcement, dated 5 November 2025 and published on the embassy page on 13 November 2025, sets the eligibility lines, the document list, the procedure and the dates below.
Where this page quotes Chinese text, such as the attachment names and the embassy's name, the English is this site's translation of the Chinese text.
The scholarship match on this site asks for your study level, scholarship type, citizenship, age, programme language, highest HSK level and whether you hold IELTS 6.0 or TOEFL 80 or above, then prints each of the 19 national scholarship entries it reads as "Conditions met", "Check a condition" or "Not met yet" — a result is not an award or an eligibility decision.
The categories and the places
The notice opens with the numbers for that cycle: 220 scholarships provided to the Mongolian government, of which 138 were already studying in China and 82 new students were planned. Of the 82, 46 were undergraduate places and 36 were for master's, doctoral, general and advanced students. The announcement does not break those 36 down further by level.
Who could apply
Section I of the announcement requires applicants to be citizens of Mongolia and in good health both mentally and physically. The degree and age lines are these:
| Programme | Embassy in Mongolia, 2026/2027 (Section I) | CSC application guide (IV. Eligibility) |
|---|---|---|
| Undergraduate | High school graduate, under 25 | Academically excellent holder of a high school diploma or equivalent, under 25 |
| Master's | Bachelor's degree holder, under 35 | Academically excellent holder of a Bachelor's degree or equivalent, under 35 |
| Doctoral | Master's degree holder, under 40 | Academically excellent holder of a Master's degree or equivalent, under 40 |
| General scholar | High school graduate at least, under 45 | Holder of a high school diploma or higher, under 45 |
| Senior scholar | Master's degree holder or associate professor or above, under 50 | Master's degree holder or associate professor or above, under 50 |
The ages match line for line. The embassy notice does not carry the CSC guide's "academically excellent" wording, and the CSC guide requires citizenship of a country other than the PRC rather than Mongolian citizenship. Section I of the announcement and item 1 of the CSC guide both require good mental and physical health.
Section I also tells applicants to examine the Chinese universities they intend to apply to, select their targets carefully, fill in the application information diligently, and meet each university's admission requirements in academic ability, language proficiency and other criteria.
Language and test lines
- Bachelor's: from the 2026/2027 academic year, applicants must take the China Scholastic Competency Assessment (CSCA) and upload a valid score report; the notice points to www.csca.cn for details and registration. The CSC guide's item 7 requires the CSCA and a valid score report for bachelor's programmes, without naming an academic year.
- Chinese-taught master's or doctoral: HSK Level 4, in both the embassy notice (Section I) and CSC guide item 10.
- Chinese-taught senior scholar: HSK Level 3, in the embassy notice and CSC guide item 9.
- Chinese-taught general scholar: HSK Level 3 in both texts. The embassy notice exempts those studying Chinese; CSC guide item 8 words its exclusion as "excluding Chinese language majors".
- Programmes taught in other languages: CSC guide item 11 requires meeting the university's requirements in language proficiency and academic ability; the embassy's document item (e) requires the relevant certificates each university asks for, such as IELTS or TOEFL score reports.
The embassy notice adds two exemptions: applicants coming to China to study Chinese under a general scholar programme need not reach the stated Chinese level, and applicants who took a degree at a Chinese university with Chinese as the language of instruction need not provide the relevant documents. The two official wordings are not identical; this page does not tell you which one to follow. Ask the office handling your application.
Documents
Section II lists the application documents:
- a) Application Form for Chinese Government Scholarship, in Chinese or English.
- b) Passport home page: a clear scan of the ordinary passport information page. If the passport's validity is less than 12 months from the expected start date of study, renew it and apply with the new one. An applicant who cannot obtain a passport for objective reasons may, with the approval of the application receiving agency, submit valid documentation showing full English name, gender, nationality and date of birth.
- c) Notarized highest diploma; prospective diploma winners submit official proof of student status from their current school. Documents in languages other than Chinese or English need notarized Chinese or English translations.
- d) Academic transcripts, with the same translation rule.
- e) Language qualification certificates: a valid HSK score report for Chinese-taught master's, doctoral, general scholar and senior scholar programmes; relevant certificates such as IELTS or TOEFL for programmes taught in other languages, as each university requires.
- f) CSCA score report for bachelor's applicants, obtained before the application deadline. Applicants intending to enrol in September 2026 were told to sit the CSCA on 21 December 2025 or 25 January 2026, and to ask the target institution which test subjects their major requires.
- g) Pre-admission documents from the university: a pre-admission notice from the international students' admission department, or an invitation letter from a school or professor.
- h) Study plan or research proposal in Chinese or English: at least 200 words for undergraduates, 500 for non-degree students, 800 for postgraduates.
- i) Two recommendation letters in Chinese or English from professors or associate professors, for graduate and senior scholar programmes.
- j) Example of Art: own works for art or design majors, uploaded in the system or sent to the university directly.
- k) Applicants under 18: valid documents of their legal guardians in China.
- l) Stays of more than six months: a photocopy of the Foreigner Physical Examination Form completed in English, with the original kept by the applicant. The form is designed by the Chinese quarantine authority and is obtained from the dispatching authority. It must cover every listed item; incomplete records, or ones without the attending physician's signature, the hospital's official stamp or a sealed photograph, are invalid. The result is valid for six months.
- m) Non-criminal record report issued by the local public security authority, usually issued within six months before the application is submitted.
Two reminders follow the list. Materials in languages other than Chinese and English must be accompanied by English translations. Uploaded documents must be clear, authentic and valid, and the applicant bears the consequences of unclear or unidentifiable uploads.
Procedure and dates
Applicants registered and submitted all materials on www.campuschina.org, where the notice says the application requirements are published; Appendix 1 carries the detailed instructions. Section III says the embassy reviews the materials and then notifies applicants of the written examination and interview arrangements by email, so valid contact details matter. Applicants whose materials do not meet the requirements are not offered an examination opportunity.
The notice carries three attachments: Instructions for Chinese Government Scholarship Information System (CGSIS) for applicants; the CSCA transcript in Chinese and English; and the Physical Examination Form for Foreigners in Chinese and English, which may be scanned or photocopied.
These dates belong to the 2026/2027 intake and have passed. When the embassy page was checked, no notice for the following intake had been published on it.
Other awards and university choice
Recipients may not simultaneously receive other scholarships established by the Chinese government at any level, or by the admitting institution, excluding one-time awards. If they do, scholarship eligibility is revoked and all scholarship money already received must be returned. Deliberate concealment of funding brings disqualification plus a three-year bar on applying for Chinese Government Scholarships.
Separately, applicants must contact the admissions offices of their chosen universities in advance and obtain an admission notice or invitation letter before submitting the scholarship application. Applicants who are not admitted to their preferred universities will not be considered for admission adjustments.
Questions people ask
Do I need a CSCA score report for a bachelor's programme?
Yes, under the embassy's 2026/2027 notice: take the CSCA before the application deadline, obtain a valid score report and upload it, and ask the target institution which subjects your major requires. The CSC guide lists the same requirement without naming an academic year.
Can I hold another Chinese government scholarship at the same time?
No. Section I of the announcement bars recipients from simultaneously receiving other scholarships established by the Chinese government at any level or by the admitting institution, other than one-time awards. If discovered, eligibility is revoked, money received must be returned, and deliberate concealment adds a three-year bar on applying.
What happens if my preferred university does not admit me?
The notice says applicants who are not admitted to their preferred universities will not be considered for admission adjustments. It also tells applicants to secure a pre-admission notice or invitation letter from a university before submitting the scholarship application.
Are these the dates for the next intake?
No. The window from 10 November 2025 to 1 February 2026 was the 2026/2027 cycle's, and it has closed. When the embassy page was checked, no notice for the next intake had been published there; check that page and the office handling your application.
