International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship: the application materials

Unofficial summary · Sources checked

Every applicant for the International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship needs a scanned passport photo page, valid HSK/HSKK score reports, and a reference letter from the head of the Recommending Institution; degree, in-service-teacher, and under-18 applicants add category-specific items. These are set out item by item in Appendix 2 of the 2025 Application Guidelines for International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship. This scholarship is not covered by this site's document checklist tool.

Check the document checklist to print the documents the Chinese Government Scholarship and self-funded routes require for your study level; the International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship is not in that tool.

How to submit

Section III (Application Procedures) of the 2025 guidelines states the order. Online registration is available from February 20, 2025 on the International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship website (http://www.chinese.cn). There you may:

  1. Search for Recommending Institutions and Host Institutions.
  2. Submit application materials online.
  3. Track the application process.

The successful applicant must then confirm with the Host Institutions to go through the procedures of studying in China, and register at the Host Institution on the designated date as per the Letter of Admission.

CLEC will entrust an expert panel to review the applications. Decisions will be based on HSK and HSKK levels and scores, geographical distribution, and other factors.

About this site's checklist

The document checklist tool asks for your study level, whether you are applying for the Chinese Government Scholarship, the language the programme is taught in, and three tick boxes (study in China for more than six months, under 18, arts or design programme). For a Chinese Government Scholarship applicant it prints the items of section VI of the official Application Guide that apply; for a self-funded applicant it prints what Ministry of Education Order No. 42 requires. Under either list it adds the admission letter or notice and form JW201 or JW202 for an X1 visa. The tool does not check, store, or submit documents. This site's checklist covers the Chinese Government Scholarship list and the self-funded rules, not the International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship.
