The pre-admission letter for a Chinese Government Scholarship: what counts

A pre-admission document is required of every applicant for the Chinese Government Scholarship. It is a pre-admission notice from the international students' admission department, or an invitation letter from a school or a professor, among other forms (Application Guide for Chinese Government Scholarship, section VI, item 7).

What counts as the document

Section VI, item 7 of the Application Guide for Chinese Government Scholarship states that all applicants must provide a pre-admission document issued by the universities applied to. The document includes a pre-admission notice issued by the international students' admission department or an invitation letter from the schools or professors, etc.

Where it sits in the process

The application process in section V of the Application Guide sets this order:

  1. An applicant shall learn about designated Chinese universities and majors by visiting websites or other means, and identify the preferred scholarship program, designated university and major.
  2. An applicant shall reach the designated university for admission documents.
  3. An applicant shall reach an application receiving agency for a recommendation.
  4. An applicant shall fill in and submit the Application Form for Chinese Government Scholarship online via the Chinese Government Scholarship Information System.
  5. The application receiving agency shall submit the recommended candidates list and their application documents.
  6. The CSC will organize designated universities and experts concerned to examine applicants' eligibility and academic performance before finalizing the short-list candidates.
  7. The CSC will notify the admission results to the application receiving agency that will subsequently have the applicant informed.

Step 2 is the point where the applicant obtains the admission documents from the designated university, before the online submission in step 4.

How placement and admission work in the ACYLS and MOFCOM programmes

The ASEAN-China Young Leaders Scholarship and the MOFCOM SCHOLARSHIP-CSC Program handle placement and admission through their own guidebooks. Each is described below on its own terms.
