Proof of funds for a Chinese university application: what the national rule says
Unofficial summary · Sources checked
Proof of funds is required for a Chinese university application under the national rule: Order No. 42 Article 12 says the university shall examine the applicant's proof of financial guarantee (经济保证证明). Order No. 42 sets no amount and no form for that proof. For the X1 student visa, each embassy's document list is separate and its financial requirement differs by mission.
Build your document list with the document checklist: it prints what Order No. 42 requires of the school and the later visa items, and it does not submit anything.

What each embassy's X1 list says about funds
The X1 visa is for study in China over 180 days. The financial document each mission asks for is that mission's own requirement, not a national rule.
| Mission | X1 financial document |
|---|---|
| Embassy of the PRC in Pakistan | Evidence of scholarship issuance, or proof of financial resources of US$2,500 per academic year or equivalent Pakistan Rupees; the closing balance of the financial supporter's bank statement should cover the whole study years in China (X1 row, item 3). |
| Embassy of the PRC in Nigeria | Proof of funds of 2,500 dollars/year or a scholarship certificate — for elementary/junior/senior high students (item ②) and for university students (item ④). The lists for Chinese-government-aided degree students (item 3) and medical internship applicants (item 4) name no proof of funds. |
| Embassy of the PRC in the United Kingdom | The X1 document list (items 1–3: admission letter; JW201 or JW202 form; confirmation form for elementary stage) names no proof of funds. |
